• Take a Civil Service Exam, administered by the Office of the State Examiner. Places & dates of exams can be obtained by contacting the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Office; Office of State Examiner. Test scores must be submitted to Bayou Cane, along with a completed employment application for hiring consideration.​​

• Submit a completed employment application, along with copies of the following documents:

• The final phase of the application process places applicants on the department's eligibility roster. When positions become available, qualified applicants on file will be notified. Once an applicant's score has expired, his/her name will be removed from the eligibility list.
